Who would have thought that we would be staying in a castle on this trip. Well...when I was looking to book for tonite this place kept popping up. We got a great rate because tourism is down in Ireland this summer, so we went for it. This castle has been in the same family for the last 350 years. It has been renovated twice within the last 200 years. The estate is over 500 acres and the gardens are lovely. We strolled all around before dinner. The dining room is very ornate and reminds me of lots of different French decor I have seen. This is quite the place. The poet Yeats and Johnny Cash both stayed here...but, not at the same time...haha. Tomorrow we are off to Sligo to see the ancient burial grounds and then we will stay in Carrick-on-the Shannon tomorrow nite.

ReplyDeleteHi Judy:
ReplyDeleteThis is Linda's sister Janet - - she shared your blog web site with us. The kids and I are really enjoying your pictures and your narratives. It looks like the kids might get a little social studies in this summer :) They are looking things up that they read and see from your blog :)
Glad you are enjoying your trip.
