We went to Clare Island yesterday to see the pirate queen's castle. This queen is renowned in Irish folklore for her courage and bandit ways. Clare Island is now populated with only 150 permanent residents. The only way to the island is by ferry twice a day. We took the ferry over and then hired a van to drive us up to the old Abbey. This is what is left of the Pirate queen's castle...it sits right on the beach as you come into the harbor.
