Made it to Chicago ahead of schedule. Union Station has a wonderful lounge as you can see in the picture. It is for people who have sleeper reservations on trains leaving for the coast. There is complimentary soda, food, snacks, wifi, TV and baggage storage. I will spend the next 8 hours here hanging out, eating lunch, meeting new people and cruising with Tiny Judy. You can see in the picture that I am all set up right in front of the wide screen TV with the train schedule screen behind me. The train ride was raucous. Lot of young girls traveling to Chicago and other families going to the Cubs game. I read most of the time and also took a nap. Great start to this trip.
I always meet the nices people in the Metro Lounge. Today it has been a mob scene with the Capitol Limited leaving people in the lounge who are headed out to California, Texas and Seattle. A sweet little old lady sat down next to me and I struck up a conversation with her...natch. She turned out to be a retired librarian. While sliding Tiny Judy out of the way to make room for her stuff, I caught a bad splinter in my little finger from the edge of the table that separated my couch and hers. She didn't miss a beat and dug into her bag, fished out a tweezer and sanitizer and handed them over. After a few tries I was able to get the splinter out of my finger. What a wonderful woman she was. She has recently left on the California Zephyr for San Francisco to visit her son. The lounge has cleared out now that they have boarded all the passengers for the California Zephyr, the Texas Eagle (bound for San Antonio) and the Empire Builder (bound for Seattle).
