Carrowmore Cairn Tomb

After we came down off the mountain, we ate lunch at a wonderful internet pub. Judy got a chance to check her email. We had great sandwiches and coffee... and a much needed rest. From there we headed to Carrowmore. It is the largest megalithic complex Ireland. A wonderful young female guide took my sister and I on a tour. The 3 of us had a great time, she had so much info to share and of course, we laughed a lot. There are so many tombs to see, they are everywhere up here in Sligo county. Our guide told us many stories about the area, ancient ones and including ones about the more recent scientific investigations of the tombs. Once she showed us what to look for, we could see cairns (ancient burial mounds) on all the surrounding hills. Many of them are very difficult to reach for the average person.
